YouTube star confronts her identical twin about her cosmetic surgery

A YouTube star whose identical twin sister completely transformed her face through cosmetic procedures confronted her sibling about the radical change in a candid video.

Niki DeMartino, 23, sat down with her twin sister Gabi DeMartino to discuss the cosmetic procedures she’s had done on her lips, teeth, and nose, at one point asking her : ‘Why did you hate your face so much?’

Since turning 18, Gabi has had fillers injected into her lips, porcelain veneers placed onto her teeth, and she underwent a non-surgical nose job.

When her sister asked her to explain the motives behind her transformation, Gabi said she felt her previous face was ‘holding [her] back’ from exploring her passion for make-up fully, and explained she yearned to look more like their mother, a former beauty queen.

Niki, who posted a video in June about getting fillers under her eyes, has said that she admires her sister for her ability to do what she wants and ignore other people’s opinions of her.

Both sisters acknowledged that Gabi has undergone a ‘huge transformation’ since starting YouTube.

‘When we were little I couldn’t even tell which was you and which was me,’ Niki said in her new clip. ‘It was impossible to tell us apart. And now we’re known as the opposite twins.’

She added: ‘I feel like I have your old face. Is it weird looking at me sometimes?’

Gabi said that while she doesn’t think Niki currently has her ‘old face’, she did at one point and it was ‘really weird’ for her.

Back when Gabi and Niki started doing YouTube videos together in 2012, their viewers usually couldn’t tell them apart.

Now, Niki has blue hair, pale skin, and her original facial features, while Gabi, in addition to undergoing cosmetic procedures, has long brown hair and spends time on tanning beds.

Niki told her sister that she feels as though the two were ‘the closest’ they’ve ever been back when they still looked identical.

Gabi recounted that when she turned 18, she thought: ‘Yes! I finally get to change a face that I hate so much!’ and immediately started working on her transformation.

She had spent years dreaming of the procedures she would one day go through in order to change her appearance — going as far as to write lists instead of doodling whenever her mind drifted off at school.

Takeaway: While Gabi says her procedures have made her happy, she stressed that not everyone has to go through the same process to feel the same way

Gabi began with lip injections because she ‘hated her thin lips so much’, then moved on to her teeth and nose.

‘Why did you hate your face so much?’ Niki asked her sister.

‘We grew up with such a beautiful mom who had a very feminine face, beautiful big lips, beautiful tan, beautiful teeth. Mom was a beauty queen, she was [runner-up] Miss New Jersey,’ Gabi said.

‘We grew up seeing that and seeing her pictures and I’ve always wanted to look like mom but we grew up looking like dad. We had the thin lips, the little teeth, the fat nose, pale, droopy eyes, bags under [our] eyes.

‘Not to say Dad’s not attractive. Those are all very attractive features on a male. I grew up with a male face and I wanted to look like a girl so bad. And I wanted to feel happy about my face.’

Gabi also said her original features didn’t enable her to wear all the make-up looks she wanted to try, and as a cosmetics fan, she wanted ‘a make-up face’.

Prior to her transformation, Gabi typically tried to ‘compensate’ her thin lips by wearing flashy eye make-up looks — but after getting her fillers, she finally felt able to start experimenting with lipstick too.

After getting her lips done, Gabi moved onto her teeth and had her father, a dentist, place veneers on them because she felt that her former teeth didn’t match her new lips.

‘When we were younger, how we knew we were identical is our teeth grew in the exact same way,’ Niki remarked.

Overall, Gabi is thrilled with her transformation, although she did tell her sister that she sometimes misses her old teeth as well as her former nose.

She is now able to leave the house without make-up on, something she said wasn’t possible for her in the past.

‘If you feel like you’re in prison looking at yourself in a mirror, and if you truly hate something like your nose, if it truly controls your entire day and if all you think about all the time is your nose or the angle people are looking at you, then it’s time to consider maybe you should start saving up so you could be happier,’ she said.

She did, however, stress that ‘everyone’s happiness is so different’, and she doesn’t want her ‘young, impressionable’ viewers to think they should necessarily undergo the same procedures as her.

‘That’s what worked for me,’ she said. ‘I don’t want them to judge me for what I’ve done to myself to be happy and I don’t want them to judge anyone else who’s overcome changes like me to be happy.’
