YouTuber reenacts The Little Mermaid into gay fairy tale

Becoming a Disney princess doesn’t have to be just a fantasy as one musician proved when he stepped into the shoes – or tail – of the Little Mermaid to put his own unique spin on the timeless classic.

Washington-based violinist Matthew Olson, not only took on the title role in his own two-minute version of the tale, which featured an exciting surprise ending, he also performed a rendition of Part of Your World on the violin.

The YouTube star created the music cover video as merman Areola, a male version of the classic character Ariel, on his Shirtless Violinist YouTube channel, where he regularly posts videos playing classical violin, all done with no shirt to show off his sizzling sculpted abs.

Under the Sea! The Shirtless Violinist YouTuber Matthew Olson recreated The Little Mermaid on his channel as Areola, The Little Merman, where he falls in love with Prince Deric

Filmed in a cove in Larrabee State Park, the scene starts with Areola perched on a rock not too different from the 1989 Disney film, surrounded by water and wearing a striking turquoise blue mermaid tail. As he sits in the mystical water view he plays Part of Your World passionately on the violin with his eye closed, waiting for someone to arrive.

Right on cue a blond Prince Deric, played by Matthew’s real life boyfriend Paul Castle, walks by wearing an outfit oh so similar to that of Prince Eric.

The prince goes to a rock and brings out a telescope to search for something – or someone – along the seas, while Areola hides behind a rock to watch him with curiosity.

Then suddenly the prince looks to the left, and there is Areola playing the violin as he leaves the water with his transformed body, trading the tail for two dazzling turquoise legs and two very human feet.

He serenades the prince sitting on the rock with his violin walking further away form the water and onto the beach.

Then suddenly, Areola is back on the rock isolated in the water, playing by himself. His trip to the shore seems a fantasy.

The dream fades away when Prince Deric’s  hand appears on Areola’s shoulder and joins him on the rock, donning a fresh and shiny pink mermaid tail and the two share true love’s kiss.

The duo gained 27,000 views for their creative remake and fans in the comment section are raving about the violin cover of the Disney class.

One said ‘When I started growing up, I began to hate the Disney princess tales. But you guys, have made me start loving those fairy tales again.’

Another added, ‘Honestly, if a sexy man rose from the ocean playing music I think I’d fall in love too!’

An enthusiastic fan said it gave him hope for a change in future Disney characters.

‘It’ll be great if Disney has a gay prince, but least we have this for now,’ the fan wrote.

The violin star explained the deeper meaning behind highly requested The Little Mermaid reenactment in the video description.

‘The overwhelming response was Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid! And I have to confess, I knew it would be. For some reason this is a story that resonates so much with the LGBTQ community,’ he explained.

‘Why do you think that is? Because it’s a story about someone who feels like they don’t belong; like societal expectations don’t match their personal desires; and because-let’s be honest-we all have a crush on Prince Eric!’ he added.

But this isn’t the first fairy tale that the couple has reenacted. In March the couple posted a Beauty and the Beast gay fairy tale that racked up 297,500 views and lit a fire of avid fan enthusiasm for more childhood fantasy film reenactments.

Matthew also posted a Game of Thrones themed video and usually posts pop artist violin covers on his channel.

The YouTuber’s mission with the channel is to make classical music sexy again, and with his body-baring videos gleaning between 1,000 to over 200,000, it looks like he’s achieving just that.
