An Australian teenager has been seen in tears as he spends a third day behind bars after allegedly bashing a security guard at a Burger King in Bali.

Sunshine Coast cabinet maker Zac Whiting, 18, has been locked up at Kuta Police station since Friday morning after he was accused of punching guard Adni Junus Liu.

Whiting was visited by friends at the police station but was forced to talk to them from his cell, only being let out to use the bathroom.

The 18-year-old allegedly attacked the guard after confronting him about one of his friends who had lost their phone.

It’s understood someone in Mr Whiting’s group of friends was demanding to see the fast food chain’s security vision in relation to their missing mobile.

Mr Junus Liu told Seven News he was outside the Burger King when Whiting and his friends approached him.

‘They challenged me to a fight. I didn’t give any response. I just tried to push them out. I tried to talk to them politely. I ask them to forgive me,’ he alleged.

He said the group returned a short time later and allegedly set upon him.

‘One of them had pushed me. I tried to control myself. I ask them to forgive me,’ he said.

Whiting reportedly ran off after the alleged attack but his friends remained at the scene and he was later arrested at his hotel, according to 7 News

Mr Liu suffered a severe gash above his eye and had to receive stitches.

If Whiting is found guilty of assault he faces up to three years in a Bali prison.

Kuta police chief Teuku Ricki Fadliansh told the The Courier Mail Whiting told them he wasn’t drunk at the time but was ‘angry’ about the mobile phone.

‘The suspect and his friend asked the victim to be responsible for the loss of the cell phone. The suspect then hit the victim’s face,’ Mr Fadliansh said.

Whiting was on a ‘toolies’ trip to Bali when the alleged assault occurred.

Toolies is the term given to a person who attends Schoolies week celebrations despite not being a school-leaver.
