Zebra makes lucky escape from crocodile in Kenya in video

Dramatic footage shows the moment a zebra managed to wriggle free from the jaws of a crocodile while crossing a river in southern Kenya.

As a herd of zebra cross the Mara River, near the Masai Mara National Reserve, one is caught in the jaws of the reptile.   

The herd make a loud braying noise as they cross the water, sticking together in small clusters for protection.

 The zebra tries to pull itself free and makes a brave dash to escape the crocodile but as a second reptile closes in the its chances begin to look slim

Footage shows the predator clamping down on the zebra’s front right leg and attempts to pull it under the water.

The animal goes under several times but continues to try and shake the croc off and move towards safe ground.

As the zebra tries to pull itself free it makes loud whining noises and goes under one final time before making a brave dash to escape the crocodile.

The pair reach the riverbank and are joined by a second crocodile as the zebra’s chances begin to look slim. 

Footage shows the predator clamping down on the zebra’s front right leg and attempts to pull it under the water but the animal manages to wriggle free 

But luckily the animal manages to escape and hobbles out of the water as a couple of other zebras take a risky drink from the 395 kilometre river.

The filmer told Newsflare: ‘This video shows a zebra attacked by a big croc holding it by a leg and trying to drown it. 

‘The zebra fights and manages to go close to the shore with the croc still on its leg.’ 

This encounter was filmed on July 22.

Luckily the animal manages to escape and hobbles out of the water as a couple of other zebras come back to take a risky drink from the 395 kilometre river with the crocodiles still watching
