How did Joyce react after his defeat to Zhang?
It was a tough defeat for the Brit, who lost his WBO interim heavyweight title belts to Zhang in April.
He admitted his disappointement after the bout, while also stating that he ‘gave it his all’.
‘I’m just disappointed with my performance,’ Joyce said after the fight.
‘The right hand he kept hitting me with I couldn’t get out of that way so respect to Zhang, Big Bang.
‘It was a good fight. I think I could have done better. I haven’t fought a southpaw for so long and credit to him because he’s a good fighter.
‘I gave it my all. I think I could do better, but it’s just disappointing. I expected to win like I normally do.’
BIG PUNCH FROM O’LEARY
We’re in the sixth round here and Kane Gardner, who had just beeen getting back into the fight here has just been dealt a huge blow by Pierce O’Leary.
It’s a long left hook shot to the temple of Gardner’s head with his legs seeming to wobble underneath him.
Gardner managed to stay on his feet and hung on for the final 30 seconds of the round.
Joyce is ready to go!
Joe Joyce was cutting a calm figure ahead of his rematch tonight against Zhilei Zhang.
The British fighter is now in the house and admitted he was focused on what he had to do in the ring to win.
‘It’s a big event but I’ve been in big events and I’m just calm anyway,’ he said to TNT Sports.
‘It is a big fight and I’m fully focused thinking about what I’m going to do. This is the calm before the storm. I’ve just arrived and just trying to get my head around what I’m going to do.
‘Yeah it’s a big fight. There’s a lot on the line here and I’m focused on what I want to do.’
RECAP: Zhang claims WBO interim heavyweight championship from Joyce
Joe Joyce was left shocked back in April after he suffered a defeat to the Zhilei Zhang, losing his WBO interim heavyweight title in the process.
The Chinese fighter won the fight with the referee opting to end the contest in the sixth round after the Brit suffered some severe swelling to his eye.
Zhang has since said that he would once again target Joyce’s eye ahead of tonight’s rematch.
But Joyce took the defeat well, with the Juggernaut having no complaints with the referee’s decision to half the fight after he could not see out of his injured eye.
It was the first defeat of his career, but the Juggernaut will be looking to enact revenge again tonight and win his belt back.
