  • Impala was up to head in mud when the national park ranger came to the rescue
  • Tried hauling the antelope out of the mud by its neck, but it was too badly stuck
  • After several minutes, brought the animal to the surface by pulling on its hooves

This is the inspiring moment an impala was rescued after being trapped in deep mud by a brave gamekeeper.

The antelope was almost up to its head in mud when the plucky ranger at Zimbabwe National Park saw it was in trouble.

After fastening a rope around his waist, the gamekeeper waded towards the stricken animal and helped it out.

At first, the ranger tried hauling the antelope out of the mud by its neck, but it was too badly stuck.

After several minutes, he managed to bring the animal to the surface by pulling on its hooves.

Then the ranger’s friends helped haul the animal back to dry land.

After a quick clean with a bottle of water, the antelope was on its feet again and running away into the bush.

The video was filmed last year, but only recently emerged online.
