A look inside the humble home in Victoria that went from drab on Buying Blind

Channel Nine’s Buying Blind follows prospective homeowners as they hand over their own money and let three experts buy and renovate a property on their behalf.

And on Tuesday night’s episode, Melbourne’s Mal and Kirsten became the latest pair to take part in the unusual experiment.

The couple, who share three young children, entrusted designer Shaynna Blaze, builder Marshall Keen and property buyer Rich Harvey with a whopping $1.45million to deliver them the perfect family home.

Buyer Rich eventually settled on a property in Melbourne’s pricey north-east, which was bought for the sum of $1.33million.

With a remaining budget of $120,00, designer Shaynna and builder Marshall set out to make structural and aesthetic changes, transforming the property from ’70s to chic.

Before and after photos reveal the jaw-dropping renovations that left Mal, Kirsten and their children overwhelmed when they stepped inside for the very first time.

When the property was first purchased, it featured a dark and dreary living room complete with dated floral carpet.

But with Marshall and Shaynna at the helm, the room was opened up to let more natural light in, and was finished off with family-friendly furnishings.

Mal and Kirsten had requested that the kitchen be the ‘star of their home’, and the three experts made sure to deliver.

Initially, the cooking space was small and pokey, a far-cry from the large communal space that Kirsten had envisioned.

The original kitchen was completely gutted with a marble island bench installed as the new centrepiece of the room.

Each of the four bedrooms was also given a complete face lift, so that all members of the family could sleep in style.

And the home’s main bathroom also looked completely unrecognisable after Marshall and Shayna had finished with the project.

Frilled curtains and 1990s-style artwork was replaced with sleek marble tiling adorning the walls from floor to ceiling.

Mal, Kirsten and the kids were completely blown away after arriving at their new home, gasping in delight as they ventured through their new property.
