All the taste without the regret! Cadbury releases new reduced-sugar chocolate bar 

In a ploy to help consumers manage their sugar-intake, Cadbury have announced the launch of a reduced-sugar chocolate bar.

The company claims the bar has been in the making for two years with the assistance of scientists, nutritionists and chocolatiers working tirelessly to ‘achieve the much-loved Cadbury taste.’

While it is not confirmed when or if the bar is due to be released in Australia, it is set to reach UK shelves in 2019.

The specialist team swapped the functionality of sugar with fibre to create the bar that has 30% less sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no calorie increase.

The launch of the bar is part of a bigger move to introduce a number of low-sugar alternatives in the coming years.

Cadbury aims to assist chocolate-lovers to partake in a balanced lifestyle where they can enjoy their treats in moderation.

‘While we don’t currently have any plans to bring reduced sugar Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate to Australia, we’re always looking at products from across our global portfolio that we think Australians will love and will meet the taste preferences of local Cadbury fans,’ associate director of Everyday Chocolate Paul Chatfield said in a statement.

‘Australians are passionate about their Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, so any new products we offer have to meet the taste expectations of consumers that have grown up enjoying the signature dairy milk taste.’

There is evidence to suggest that Australians care about their sugar intake and the new bar could end up on our shelves if recent trends continue.

A few days ago, Coca-Cola announced that Coke Zero would be removed from Australia as consumers were more inclined to purchase Coca-Cola No Sugar. 

‘Australians have embraced Coke No Sugar – which from day one was carefully crafted to taste even more like Coca-Cola Classic, but without the sugar,’ marketing director Lucie Austin said in a statement. 

While other countries have implemented a sugar tax, the Australian government is in no hurry to make a move.

‘Sugar in many respects is the enemy of good health, and obesity is one of the major causes of too much sugar intake, but whether governments should be taxing these particular products, where do you draw the line?’ Cabinet minister Christopher Pyne said to Nine Network in June.
