Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez missed his team’s victory in Greece this week to scout Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo claim the Barca chief flew to Portugal to watch the Frenchman in action against Benfica as he weighs up an approach.

Fernandez saw Martial come off the bench to play the final 14 minutes of the Champions League game, which United won 1-0.

He had previously watched Tottenham claim a draw at Real Madrid in the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

Martial has spent just over two years at Old Trafford following his initial £36million move from Monaco.

He has been in and out of favour under manager Jose Mourinho, however, and has previously linked with interest from Sevilla and Tottenham.

In recent weeks, though, the 21-year-old has found form, scoring five goals in 11 appearances this term and picking up the club’s player of the month award for September.

Over the course of his entire United career, Martial has netted 30 times in 102 appearances.
