Bisexual man reveals why he prefers to date men

A bisexual man living in New York has revealed why he prefers dating gay men, revealing that he finds the experience both cheaper and easier than going out with women.

Speaking anonymously to The Cut, the 32-year-old man who lives in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and works in finance, shared that although he is attracted to both men and women, he prefers to date men as it’s more affordable.

‘It’s just easier and more affordable to go on dates with men,’ he explained, before adding: ‘I have my Bumble set to men and women; my Tinder is strictly men.’

‘I identify as bisexual, but I really tend to lean toward men,’ he added.

The man also explained that as he is financially secure having recently received a ‘double-digit percentage salary increase’ and end of year bonus, he is looking for the companionship and intimacy a relationship brings, as he’s tired of doing things by himself.

But although dates with men don’t cost him as much money, the man did disclose that there are non-financial downsides to dating gay men.

Detailing that he feels pressure to stay in shape, he also revealed that he feels more self-conscious about his body when being intimate with men.

‘They say girls are placed under intense beauty pressure by society but let me tell you, this idea of beauty standards is very prevalent in the gay community,’ he suggested.

‘Gay men are savage when it comes to looks and aesthetics.’

In the diary piece, the man also shared details of the New York dating scene and highlighted how unpredictable online dating can be.

He shared that although he was dating one man named ‘W’ for seven weeks, he suddenly found himself ghosted.

And another Tinder match named ‘K’ suddenly cancelled plans to meet because he had decided to be exclusive with another man.

‘If you were that close to being in a relationship, why even entertain me?’ he asked.

‘This is the stuff we deal with in modern dating, complicated even more by the same-sex situation. Lesson — always assume your date is involved with other people,’ he added.

His family has also struggled to accept his bisexuality, particularly his mother.

‘When I came out to my mom, she said I was sinning, betraying God, and that I would get AIDS if I continue doing this “thing” with men,’ he admitted.

He also shared that his mother is deeply religious – ‘a Jesus freak’ – and she brings up God to try and convince him that what he is doing is ‘wrong’.

‘But she loves me dearly and I know she’ll accept it if I end up in a relationship with a man one day,’ he added.

He also revealed that he is hesitant to let his co-workers know about his sexual orientation.

‘I’m not out at work, and I don’t think I ever will be. I try to keep my personal life private,’ he explained.

‘Maybe if I get a boyfriend I will let my co-workers know.’
