Body found in Thailand is confirmed as missing British dad

Human remains found close to where a married British father-of-two disappeared while on holiday in Thailand with his family have been confirmed as his.

The body of Martin Wood, a 48-year-old businessman from Devon, was discovered on Wednesday in a wooded area near the town of Cha-Am.

The spot is close to the Dream Boutiques Hotel where Mr Wood, was last seen before vanishing on December 30.

Investigators say it appears the Mr Wood had been dead for around 18 days.

While an exact cause of death was not given, a spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which was leading efforts to find Mr Wood said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Wood was known to have medical problems and suffered from alcoholism, according to staff at the hotel, where he was a regular guest.

The Lucie Blackman Trust said in a statement: ‘We are saddened to confirm that Martin Wood was found deceased in Thailand earlier this week.

‘Thank you for the huge support his appeal received. Our thoughts and support are with Martin’s family at this difficult time.’

Tributes have now been paid to Martin on facebook.

Clarissa Roger wrote: ‘He was such a character and very kind to me.

‘I’m gonna miss your cheeky smile Martin Wood about this town but your one of these guys that will always be felt around. Rest in peace my friend. Gone but my no means ever forgotten.’

A GoFundMe account set up to raise money for search efforts described him as being in a ‘vulnerable state’ at the time he disappeared. 

When he vanished he was in the third week of a month-long stay at the hotel with his father, Colin.

His passport and bank cards were discovered in his room after he vanished, according to Devon Live. 

He was well-known in his home town of Crediton for running the Woods Group, a scrap metal merchant.
