Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has given a brutally honest account of his display against Barcelona, admitting he made mistakes in allowing Lionel Messi to score twice between his legs.

The Blues were knocked out of the Champions League after being beaten 3-0 at the Nou Camp with Messi nutmegging Courtois twice either side of Ousmane Dembele’s strike.

And the Belgian stopper has made no excuses, saying that the Argentine capitalised on one of his biggest weaknesses.

‘I don’t think we deserve to go out but obviously we made mistakes,’ the Chelsea star told BT Sport following the last-16 tie.

‘I didn’t expect Messi to shot from there and I didn’t close my legs so that was a mistake on my part.

‘I’ve played against him a lot of times and I already concede goals through my legs.

‘For a goalkeeper like me I think between my legs is the weakest point because obviously even if I’m standing in a normal position there is a lot of space in-between.

‘It’s annoying but I don’t think I have to hide inside. I think you have to come out, be a man, show you made a mistake and move on.

‘I think they’re also a good side and I made some good saves as well but it’s unlucky to go out with four goals where we made four mistakes. But we have to move on, work hard and continue.
