A crane carrying a Big W sign has collapsed on a Brisbane road, causing major traffic delays during rush hour.

The weight of the sign caused the crane to topple over outside a shopping center on Osborne Road in Mitchelton at 5.40am on Tuesday, according to 9News. 

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A clean-up crew is on the way to remove the crane, which is still lying in the middle of the road. 

The sign will have to be cut into pieces to be removed. 

No one was injured.
