Father-to-be FAINTS during girlfriend’s labour

This is the moment an apparently calm father-to-be suddenly keeled over in the delivery room while supporting his girlfriend through labour.

Ben, 29, fainted while watching his partner Amy, 23, push in the maternity ward at Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

The couple appear in the new series of One Born Every Minute, which returns on Wednesday and follows expectant parents to be as they prepare to welcome their children into the world.

Ben – who reveals on the show how he experienced sympathy pains throughout Amy’s pregnancy and gained more than a stone in weight due to ‘craving’ biscuits and cake – initially appears calm as he helped to administer pain relief to his partner in the delivery room.

But watching her strain while in the grip of a contraction becomes too much for the father-to-be, who dramatically collapses to the floor without warning, prompting Amy to break off from her controlled breathing to cry: ‘He’s passed out!’

The couple, who met at a car park at work and appear in the second episode of the new series, had been together for three months when Amy fell pregnant.

She says on the show of her boyfriend’s feelings about impending fatherhood: ‘He’s been extremely emotional, and that is nice to see.’

Ben agrees: ‘It’s shocked me, how my emotions changed. You’ve [Amy] turned me into a right softie – I can’t even watch telly without crying now.

‘I just feel that I’ve got to be strong for her, so I need to man up a bit to be fair.’

But the clip from the show reveals how watching Amy in labour leaves Ben feeling green around the gills.

As a struggling Amy, teeth gritted, tells the midwife ‘I can’t do it,’ her partner suddenly slides to the floor with a thud.

Ben disappears from view – taking the gas and air machine to the floor with him – forcing the midwife to summon colleagues to help him as she continues to tend to Amy.

The mum-to-be continues to push without Ben – who later threw up – looking on, before welcoming their daughter, Amber-Rose.

Ben explains in the episode that he ‘felt pregnant’ and experienced his own cravings through his girlfriend’s pregnancy.

‘I’m eating a lot more biscuits and cake which isn’t great to be honest as I’ve put on a bit of weight,’ he says on the show.

The couple are seen breaking down in tears as they welcome their daughter Amber-Rose who weighed in at 6lbs 5oz, on One Born Every Minute.

The new series of One Born Every Minute begins on Channel 4, Wednesday at 9pm
