James Comey calls Trump a ‘one out of 10 president’

Former FBI director James Comey has accused President Donald Trump of never laughing and constantly talking about himself in a damning interview on UK radio.

Comey also attacked Trump over his administration’s policy of zero-tolerance towards illegal immigration, branding it ‘shameful’ and branded him a ‘one out of ten president’.

He said the US has sunk to a level ‘similar’ to periods in the 1920s when ‘one third of Congress were KKK members’ and when Joseph McCarthy ‘reigned’ in the ’50s.

In the interview, by Nick Ferrari on LBC, Comey attacked Trump’s character.

He said: ‘I never saw him laugh and I had dinner alone with him for about an hour and a half.

‘He talks nearly the entire time and it’s about him telling you how great he is and seeking your affirmation. But there’s no humour, which is deeply concerning in a leader.’

Comey also attacked Hillary Clinton, saying the American people were offered the ‘two least-trusted’ people in the country in the 2016 president election.

In an exchange about the threat of Islamist terrorism, Comey said the UK has a more severe problem than the US because of the ‘nature of the population’ in the country.

And though he said the US was suffering through a period of ‘reaction and pain and retrenchment,’ he sounded an optimistic note.

‘The good news is, we always get back on track. I live in a wonderful, diverse country, which is often messy and bumpy.

‘We make great progress, we then retrench, then we make great progress again. We will be OK.’

Comey weighed in on British politics, too, saying Brexit did not represent progress for the country.

He said he does not support the legalization of cannabis, but he does back ‘experimentation’ with laws.
