Kerry Washington’s budget beauty secret revealed as fish oil pills

Kerry Washington has been battling eczema since she was eight years old, but the star revealed her budget-friendly secret for keeping it under control.

The 41-year-old mother-of-two opened up about her skincare secrets this week, admitting that she takes daily supplements to tame her itchy, inflamed skin.

Kerry shared several of her beauty and skincare tips with Glamour, enumerating the parts of her routine she’ll never skip — including taking a $7-a-bottle fish oil supplement every day.

Explaining how she manages her battle with eczema, Kerry said she relies on daily fish oil supplements, ‘because omega fatty acids work’.

There have been several scientific studies that indicate that the Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil can alleviate symptoms of eczema.

Bottles of the bills can be bought for around $10 on Amazon and are found in most pharmacies and convenience stores. The popular supplement brand Nature’s Bounty sells a 120-count bottle of Fish Oil Softgels for just $6.43 at Walmart.

While Kerry takes a pill every single day, she also treats her skin condition topically, admitting: I”d never, ever skip moisturizer – no way – it’s too critical.

‘I’m a little bit obsessed with Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream. It actually makes my manicure last an extra week.

‘And then hyaluronic acid for my face is everything. I love Neutrogena’s new serum. And there’s a new Hydroboost gel with SPF in it, which is great, especially during spring and summer.’

As for the one beauty rule Kerry swears by, she said: ‘Hydration, hydration, hydration. I believe drinking a ton of water is vital to health and wellness.

‘It’s so important to have hydration on the inside, but also finding products that can really lock in moisture on the outside. It’s all about working internally and externally toward the same goal.’

Now that her hit ABC show Scandal has officially come to a close after seven seasons, Kerry couldn’t help but reminisce about her character Olivia Pope and how Olivia’s beauty on the show influenced her own in real life.

‘Olivia has encouraged me to be more bold with my beauty looks, but so have my kids. Wearing my natural hair on the red carpet has a lot to do with me being a mom now and wanting to reflect that for them.’

‘Again, it’s that idea that there’s not just one way to be beautiful and that there are lots of ways to bring out your best self,’ she continued. ‘You don’t have to follow one prescription of what beauty is. I try to always be free and authentic and not leave the house until I’m like, okay, I feel good about this.’

Benefits of fish oil supplements

Kerry uses fish oil supplements to help manage her eczema, but there are other ways it can help.

The fatty acid found inside the capsules – Omega-3 – help protect the heart by balancing cholesterol levels.

Higher levels of Omega-3 in brain membranes can improve communication with other cells, which benefits brain function.

They have strong anti-inflammatory properties, too, which have proven to help people suffering with rheumatoid arthritis and other joint pain.

While she’s been loving her natural locks lately, especially her voluminous look on the Met Gala red carpet just last week, she admits that clarifying shampoo is a must for those with curly hair.

‘I use it once a month, because I rely on so much conditioner and leave-in products that, if I don’t hit the reset button occasionally, my hair can get weighed down,’ she said.

Kerry has spoken up about her eczema in the past, telling Allure in October 2017 that she started to see a dermatologist about her condition when she was just eight.

It’s not just Kerry that’s a huge fan of fish oil supplements. Rob Hobson, head nutritionist at Healthspan, shared the pros and cons of fish oils with Daily Mail Online.

Research shows that Omega-3 -the fatty acid found inside of oily fish such as salmon, trout, tuna and sardines – has a ton of health benefits that people swear by.

Other benefits include improved heart health (by balancing cholesterol levels), better brain function (higher Omega-3 levels in the membrane improve the ability to communicate with other cells), and anti-inflammatory properties, which have proven to help people suffering with rheumatoid arthritis.
