Killer who called himself the Devil is jailed for 23 years

A killer who called himself ‘the Devil’ has been jailed for 23 years for the brutal murder of a retired restaurateur.

Jordan Davidson, 26, subjected 67-year-old Nicholas Churton to a savage attack in his flat in Wrexham.

Davidson battered his disabled victim with a hammer and hacked him to death with a machete, before describing the killing as the ‘greatest day of his life’.

Then, in a sick photo, he posed with the weapon and called it his ‘new toy’.

He admitted murder and was sentenced to serve a minimum of 23 years and four months at Mold Crown Court.

His sentence would have been 28 years but for his guilty plea.

Mr Justice Clive Lewis said he will only be released if the authorities are satisfied he is no longer dangerous.

The judge told the court: ‘This was a brutal attack on a vulnerable, frail and defenceless old man.’

He added: ‘Whether, if ever, you are safe to be released on licence will depend upon the assessment of the risk that you pose to members of the public after that minimum term has expired.’

Davidson went on a crime spree after senselessly killing Mr Churton, robbing a man in Chester and attacking a detective during a police interview.

He also attacked a prison officer while on remand at Altcourse Prison, slashing him with a make-shift weapon in revenge for reporting him for drugs years earlier.

Davidson was due to go on trial for murder and a series of 12 other offences at Mold Crown Court last week.

Prosecuting barrister Mr Andrew Thomas QC suggested that Davidson targeted elderly men.

He was on licence from prison when he went on his one-man spree.

Police also found that he had been texting a schoolgirl he appeared to have been obsessed with giving a running commentary of his crimes.

Davidson told the schoolgirl that he could guarantee that armed police would shoot him dead.

One text read: ‘I’ve gone too far to turn bk. Wan way or another I gottadie… I’ve found my power. Today is guna be a day dat will be remembered.

‘My toy got dirty haha’.

‘Head gone head gone finally snapped bodies bodies bodies everywhere xxxx’

‘But I am so damn happy – dis is guna be wivout doubt THE GREATEST DAY OV MY LIFE’.
