Clover filled up a can with petrol before driving to the old Footscray rope factory on Ballarat Road, inner-west Melbourne where his ex partner and her family were squatting.

He doused their only potential escape route with petrol before setting the room alight.

After a short while the flames caused an explosion in the factory building which left no possibility of any of the victims surviving.

According to police the bodies of the trio were found huddled together after the flames were extinguished.

Clover had reportedly threatened to burn Ms Burmeister to death in the weeks leading up to the murder.
