Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho accuses Pep Guardiola of lying

Jose Mourinho has accused Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola of telling white lies about the extent of David Silva’s injury.

Guardiola claimed on Tuesday that Silva is a doubt for Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford but that did not wash with his Manchester United counterpart.

Mourinho took a thinly-veiled swipe at Guardiola — as well as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger — as he stoked up the rivalry with Premier League leaders City.

‘Our opponents have all these issues,’ Mourinho said. ‘They have a big issue but in the end everybody is ready to play.

‘They have phenomenal organisations. We are a bit more humble. When we have a problem, we have a problem. When players are injured, they are injured. I tell you the truth.

‘No stories of (Alexandre) Lacazette or David Silva. All truth. Eric Bailly has no chance. Phil Jones has a chance.

‘Marouane Fellaini a chance. Zlatan Ibrahimovic a big chance. Nemanja Matic is injured but will play for sure.’

United topped their Champions League group after beating CSKA and equalled a club record 40 home matches unbeaten.

Mourinho warned that no European giant will want to draw his side in the last 16 – but is not bothered about records.

‘It doesn’t matter who you get in the draw,’ he added. ‘That team won’t be jumping with happiness to play against us.

‘I’m not the luckiest guys with draws so it’s better I shut up and forget it! We play in February and until then I have to concentrate on the English competitions.

‘I’m not proud of the record because we had some bad results at home. We drew matches which weren’t good. I’m not playing for records.’
