Meet Australia’s youngest parents, both 16, with two kids

A teenage couple who made headlines after revealing they were expecting their second child are now proud parents of two – and they are both only 16.

Mollie Syrigos fell pregnant at the age of 13 and gave birth to her firstborn, a son named Theodore, at 14 years old.

Mollie and her partner Oscar Wilks faced constant criticism and judgement for their premature venture into parenthood, but barely a year later they welcomed baby number two into the world.

They have been dubbed Australia’s youngest parents after having two children under the age of two by the tender age of sweet 16.

The couple’s second child – a daughter named Delilah Lilli Wilks – was born on December 9, 2017.

Despite the struggles of teenage parenthood, the young couple admit their second child was ‘mostly’ planned and claim they were ready for another baby.

The doting parents may have missed out on an important slice of young adulthood, but both admit they wouldn’t change it for the world.

‘We can’t go to the movies like typical teenage couples would…. I miss it every day, but I wouldn’t change it,’ Mollie told Today Tonight.

‘I used to look down upon people before I had Theodore… like teenage mums… and now I am one.’

Mollie and Oscar are determined to prove their harsh critics wrong and are raising their children alone, despite being barely out of childhood themselves.

They both live in their own home, pay their own bills and are capable of caring for Delilah and Theodore without constant help from their parents.

But the young parents weren’t always a picture-perfect couple.

When Mollie first fell pregnant she was urged to have an abortion and is still the subject of ridicule from strangers.

‘For a couple of months I didn’t have much support. Everyone was trying to persuade me to get an abortion which wasn’t too fun, it was very difficult actually,’ she told 9news last year.

‘Still to this day we get dirty looks and rude comments, people messaging me on Facebook and calling me.’

The proud parents may have their hands full with a newborn and a toddler, but Mollie hasn’t entirely sworn off having more babies.

‘Maybe 10 years from now we might change our mind but for now we are totally fine with two,’ she said.
