Pumping up Trump! Campaigners prepare for the presidential visit by inflating the Donald Trump baby

Protesters are gearing up to launch a gigantic Trump blimp which will fly above Parliament later this week.

Campaigners were seen giving the huge balloon a test ride on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of its premier flight on Friday.

This comes as controversial President Trump is due to visit the UK for the first time this year since becoming elected in November 2016.

Organisers were filmed pumping the blimp with air in a park on a sunny afternoon in north London yesterday.

Trump will get the red carpet treatment on his brief visit to England that begins Thursday.

He will be treated to military bands at a gala dinner, lunch with the prime minister at her country place, then tea with the queen at Windsor Castle before flying off to one of his golf clubs in Scotland.

But trip planners may go out of their way to shield Trump from viewing the 20ft inflatable mock-up version of himself as a baby.

Protesters who will fly the giant inflatable ‘Trump baby’ near Parliament said the stunt has a serious message behind it.

Although it depicts the leader as an angry infant wearing a nappy and clutching a mobile phone, when it flies in Parliament Square for two hours on Friday morning organisers hope it can be a symbol for all those campaigning against the President’s controversial policies.

Sheila Menon, who is part of a group who crowdfunded the balloon, said: ‘We know that behind the humour of this the Trump baby represents a whole multitude of campaigns and issues.

‘This isn’t just about mocking him.

‘This is actually about drawing attention to his fascist policies, policies that he’s putting into place like nobody’s business since he’s been in power.

‘Policies that are having very real impacts on real lives not just in the US but all over the world.’

She listed Mr Trump’s immigration policies, bans on some people entering the US, his foreign policies, and lack of support for taking action on climate change as having affects across the globe.

She added: ‘So there’s a very serious message behind this but what we’re hoping is that on Friday this can be a symbol that people, no matter what they’re campaigning on, can get behind, and can feel that this is representing them and all their campaign issues.’

The blimp’s appearance in central London was approved by the Greater London Authority, and Mayor Sadiq Khan has defended the decision, saying it is not for him to be a censor or to decide what is in good or bad taste.

The Mayor of London clashed with Piers Morgan on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain over permitting the balloon’s presence.

Morgan asked Khan if he would have flown a blimp of Obama or Hilary Clinton if the roles were reversed, to which he replied he would.

Buckingham Palace has announced that the monarch will meet the US president and First Lady Melania Trump at the dais in the Quadrangle of the historic Berkshire royal residence, Windsor Castle, on Friday.

A Guard of Honour, formed of the Coldstream Guards, will give a Royal Salute and the US national anthem will be played.

The Queen and Mr Trump will inspect the Guard of Honour before watching the military march past.

Mr and Mrs Trump will also join the Queen for tea at the Castle.

The Queen has received three other US Presidents at Windsor Castle since the 1980s – Barack Obama in 2016, George W Bush in 2008 and Ronald Reagan in 1982.

One of the biggest ever police operations will be staged to cover Mr Trump’s visit after it was rumoured £30million would be spent .
