Remains found on the side of Texas road belong to teenage football player, 18, who had been missing since 2016

  • Remains were found on the side of Lake Marvin Road near Lake Marvin, Texas, on January 9
  • Forensic testing confirmed that the remains belonged to Thomas Brown, a teen who was last seen on November 23, 2016 
  • Brown’s family hired private firm, Klein Investigations and Consulting, to locate the teen after they were left unsatisfied with the state’s search

Remains found last week on the side of a Texas road have been confirmed to belong to an 18-year-old football player who had been missing since 2016.  

Texas Department of Public Safety announced that investigators had learned that  remains were found in Hemphill County on January 9, KDFA reports. 

Forensic testing confirmed that the remains belonged to Thomas Brown, a teen who was last seen on November 23, 2016.

'We have been advised that the remains of Tom Brown, of Canadian, Texas, has been found off of Lake Marvin Road – near Lake Marvin,' said Klein Investigations and Consulting in a press release. 'His remains have been confirmed through dental records'

A page dedicated to finding the teen, Help Find Tom Brown, shared a release from a private firm that shared that his body was found near Lake Marvin Road near Lake Marvin.  

‘We have been advised that the remains of Tom Brown, of Canadian, Texas, has been found off of Lake Marvin Road – near Lake Marvin,’ said Klein Investigations and Consulting in the release. ‘His remains have been confirmed through dental records.’

The firm was hired by the family after they were left unsatisfied with police search efforts.

KIC shared that a person reported the body after hearing calls to keep a watch out on Lake Marvin Road. 

‘This person did the right thing – if you see something say something,’ the release added.

The release asked for prayers for Brown’s family, who were in ‘seclusion post being informed and they have asked for time to gather their thoughts.

KIC praised the Attorney General of the State of Texas, Texas Rangers and citizens for rallying behind the teen’s disappearance. 

They added: ‘Although the discovery of Tom’s remains gives some closure to the mystery of his location, there are still questions on what really happened on Lake Marvin Road. 

‘And now, a new phase will begin in the investigation, and those whom may know something need to come forward now.’
