Truck driver screams after flipping truck at roundabout

A truck driver was knocked unconscious after flipping his 46-tonne truck while driving through a Gold Coast roundabout.

Steve Spencer was carrying a load of heavy rocks on a routine afternoon delivery when his truck suddenly tipped over about 1.30pm on Monday.

Mr Spencer fell out of his seat but his ankle became caught in his seat belt, leaving him dangling mid-air while unconscious.

Dashcam footage of the crash shows Mr Spencer screaming about the loss of his legs.

‘Oh f**k. Where’d my legs go, where’d my legs go?’ Mr Spencer said.  

Bystanders who arrived at the scene to rescue Mr Spencer reassured him his legs were uninjured.

‘Your legs are up there in the strap bro,’ they reassured him.

Mr Spencer said he asked the paramedics to ‘check my feet and legs to see if they were still there’.

He was pulled out of the upturned truck without suffering any serious injuries.

‘I severed a piece of my ear, that’s been stitched back together, I’ve got a cut across the back of my head, so generally [I’m] just a bruised mess,’ he said.

‘If I would have come around and rolled on top of you, you would not be here today and I would probably be in court for your death,’ Mr Spencer said.
