Woman goes on a rampage, breaking mirrors and equipment at gym

A 38-year-old woman went on a rampage in a Toronto gym earlier this month, using a bar bell to ram a treadmill and throwing free weights at a mirror, after employees refused to let her work out. 

The incident happened just before noon on June 3 at the GoodLife gym in Liberty Village. 

Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu told the Toronto Sun that the woman became ‘very irate’ when employees told her she wouldn’t work out because she wasn’t a member, and had to leave.

Witness Troy Joe, a local musician, took video on his phone that showed the woman using a weigted barbell to repeatedly hammer the screen of a treadmill. 

In another video recorded by the musician, the woman is seen throwing free weights at a mirror. 

Joe also posted a video of the woman yelling at a group of men that surrounded her after the rampage, and even pushing one of them. He took a photo of a window that she smashed that the gym as well. 

‘I made sure I was on my toes when she walked by. She wasn’t playing around,’ Joe wrote in the comments section of his post. ‘She just started going crazy and wasn’t letting anyone stop her.’

Sidhu says the woman was subdued by patrons.

Authorities are not releasing the woman’s name because she has mental health issues.  

The woman was arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000. She allegedly caused $7,000 worth of damage to the gym. 

GoodLife Fitness divisional manager Carlton Braithwaite said that employees worked to make sure no one else as hurt.  

‘GoodLife is fully cooperating with the police investigation and we are eager to understand how the incident could have been prevented. GoodLife Fitness strives to provide safe and welcoming spaces, and we are grateful that no one was injured,’  Braithwaite said.
