One in five staff made redundant by the NHS have been re-employed by the organisation, figures reveal.

As many as 33,494 staff have been made redundant since 2010, with more than 6,800 given jobs again by the NHS.

The statistics emerged after a Parliamentary question was tabled by shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth.

Branding the situation a ‘shambles’, the Labour MP said last night: ‘Yet again the staggering incompetence of Ministers running the health service has been exposed.’
