£150million Kane could reunite with old boss Mauricio Pochettino ‘if Kylian Mbappe or Neymar leave’

Harry Kane could be reunited with old boss Mauricio Pochettino as Paris Saint-Germain ‘plot swoop for Tottenham’s £150million talisman should Kylian Mbappe or Neymar leave this summer’

  • Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino struck up a close relationship at Tottenham
  • The pair still speak regularly and Kane congratulated Pochettino on his new job
  • Kane could only join the French giants though if Kylian Mbappe or Neymar left
  • Mbappe and Neymar could sign for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively
  • Manchester City and Manchester United will also be in the market for a No 9
  • Kane is Spurs’ top earner on £200,000 a week and is contracted until 2024

Paris Saint-Germain have made Harry Kane their primary transfer target this summer and would be prepare to shell out £150million on the Tottenham goal machine if Kylian Mbappe or Neymar depart the French giants.

Kane, the only player in England’s top flight who is in double figures for goals and assists so far this season, has been largely responsible along with Son Heung-min for keeping Tottenham just about in contention for the top four after a dramatic mid-season slump.

He struck up a strong relationship over five-and-a-half years with Spurs’ former manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is now in charge at PSG.

The pair still speak regularly over WhatsApp, with Kane congratulating Pochettino on his new role last month, according to the Mirror.

Mbappe and Neymar have been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively and Pochettino will no doubt be keen to bring in Kane should either of the pair depart, especially after the Frenchman’s brilliant hat-trick in the 4-1 win away at the Nou Camp.

Manchester City are also known to be interested in Kane’s services as they seek a replacement for injury-prone 32-year-old Sergio Aguero, while Manchester United are likely to be in the market for a No 9 this summer who can bag them 20 league goals a season.

Kane earns £200,000 a week and is contracted until 2024, and while both Manchester clubs are used to spending that much and more on a player’s wages, the overall outlay for the England striker would still need to be considered at length as clubs worldwide continue to tighten their belts to deal with the financial impact of Covid-19.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has a mortgage on the club’s new stadium to think about and wants to make sure that if Kane leaves, he will became the third-most expensive sale in football history after Mbappe (£163m) and Neymar (£200m).

Such a transfer would smash the record fee paid for a British player, when Gareth Bale moved to Real Madrid for £85m in 2013, and it would also eclipse Philippe Coutinho’s £142m fee that saw him swap Liverpool for Barcelona in 2018. However, for the time being, Spurs’ stance is that Kane will not be leaving.

The 27-year-old has scored an astounding 209 goals in 319 games across all competitions for his boyhood team but despite his attachment to the north Londoners, Kane is frustrated that he hasn’t been picked up any silverware in his senior career so far, finishing on the losing side of the EFL Cup final against Chelsea in 2015 and, more significantly, the Champions League showpiece against Liverpool four years later, which marked the beginning of the end for Pochettino in N17.

The Carabao Cup final in April against City could be Kane’s last shot at glory with the club.

PSG have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals after their impressive performance on Tuesday night and Pochettino will be braced for a series of big-money offers in the summer from Real for prize asset Mbappe, while Neymar has been linked with a return to Barca despite the Catalan club’s financial woes.

With Tottenham currently competing in the Europa League and struggling to regain their place at Europe’s top table for 2021-22, Kane will be looking on enviously at Pochettino’s Paris project.
