‘A light aircraft with two occupants was allegedly practicing taking off and landing procedures subsequently they had a crash landing which resulted in a fire,’ NSW Ambulance Inspector Jason Speight told media.

Inspector Speight said the pair suffered serious burns and ‘suspected fractures’ to their legs, arm and scalp.

‘They were both conscious when removed … the female was more injured,’ he said.

‘It’s a sad day for the family.’

Canobolas Zone NSW Rural Fire Service said brigades were on scene shortly after seeing a ‘light plane come down at Orange Airport’ which caused it to catch fire.

Two ambulance helicopters arrived at the scene after the plane caught fire as well as a number of emergency crews.
