Ten gender neutral toilets have been introduced at the Home Office headquarters, costing the taxpayer more than £36,000.
Where five men’s and five women’s toilets once stood are 10 unisex spaces each containing three cubicles. Converting them cost £28,892.50 and the signs alone cost £8,070.70
The total spend of £36,963.20 was part of the department’s promise to create a ‘more inclusive place to work’.

The cost for the toilets was revealed after The Sun submitted a Freedom of Information request.
Campaigners at the TaxPayers’ Alliance said the Home Office ‘should focus more time and money on matters of immigration and security’.

Christian Concern’s head of public policy, Tim Dieppe, branded the move ‘something introduced purely to tick a box’.
But the Stonewall charity, which campaigns on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, said: ‘Having facilities everyone can use is sensible.’
A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We are committed to being an inclusive employer and creating an environment where staff feel comfortable.’
