The San Francisco 49ers offensive line was treated well this Christmas – but not by the person traditionally responsible for gift giving.

It’s a longstanding tradition in the NFL for quarterbacks to get gifts for their offensive line as a thank you for their contributions to the season.

But in the Bay Area, it was running back Christian McCaffrey in charge of the presents – handing his teammates a bottle of tequila, a PXG golf bag, and a coupon for a custom club fitting.

Normally, that duty would fall on quarterback Brock Purdy, but as he explained to The Athletic, his contract isn’t rich enough to properly thank the linemen for their top-notch job.

‘Financially I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now,’ Purdy joked. ‘Shoutout to him, everyone loved it. Thank you, Christian.’

This gift giving typically falls on the quarterback, but Brock Purdy is still on a rookie deal of just $870,000 - so he wasn't able to properly treat his stellar O-Line this holiday season

Purdy, who was taken with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is playing at an MVP level this season.

But his contract is lower than some college quarterbacks’ NIL deals – with Purdy earning only $870,000 a year on his rookie contract.

To save money, he lives with a roommate – offensive lineman Nick Zakelj – and drives an old Toyota Sequoia SUV.

‘He’s doing as much as he can with what he’s got,’ McCaffrey told reporters Friday. ‘But eventually he’ll be just fine at providing the gifts.’

The 49ers next play on Christmas Day when they host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.
