Today, my dear ones, we talk about songs that not only got famous because of their use in TV shows but also because we just absolutely loved them. Some of the songs were long forgotten until the TV shows hit us with them. I totally adore how they developed a culture of bringing back the dead songs or the songs that today’s generation might not have known had they not used them. For instance, I had no idea about how cool Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics was until I saw X-men Apocalypse. I am not saying the song wasn’t famous – it’s just I never heard it before.
In the air tonight
The first song to get on the list is, of course, an 80’s song. Do you guys ever just feel that maybe – the 80’s people did a great work that just needs to be kept alive by using them even after years for different Media?
Well, the producers of two-hit shows thought so too. Miami Vice is just as old as the song itself. It came out in 1984 to be exact and the song was a product of ’81. Years passed by and the song laid in the dusty old records until it was sung afresh by Jon Howard for Lucifer and viola the song has been alive since then.
Overkill
Overkill was released in 1983 and although the song was catchy my young arse might not have been able to ever know it had it not been for Pokemon. They changed the song’s original voiceover to one that was more relatable for children. Later on – Scrubs used the same song and reminded of not just pokemon-ic days but also I found out how good the song actually is.
Teardrop
Massive Attack gave us a lot of heartfelt songs to connect to and love. One of them was teardrop. The video is no doubt quite a piece of art in itself but the song was forgotten – mainly because it was released in 1998. 20 years to the song – wow.
The song gained a lot of attention again when it was featured in House M.D. I loved House, don’t you? The ending thou – I really wanted them to end it like a fairy tale but of course it was house and had to be realistic af.
When it’s cold I’d like to die
This song – is too slow for my taste, in all honesty, yet I liked it. It was released in 1994 and damn it has this orchestral feel to it as if the Sirens are singing it with a fully professional music group alongside. So soothing yet sad … Simpsons (Yopsie) made a version as well but I really heard it in Stranger Things. The song was also used in The Walking Dead just so you. It’s a pretty dope song.
Breathe me
Sia did a great job singing this one. I love the texture of her voice it’s like coffee leaves drying up in the sun – used for only the best of tastes. The song was very good but ha-ha – I feel embarrassed to say this but I had never heard it.
It’s most famous for its use in Six feet under. However, it’s not the only show that used it; the song was also used in:
-
- Life as we know it
- E-Ring
- The ultimate gift
- CSI: Miami
And these are not all the songs that you and I have missed out on. Sometimes TV shows lead us to greater taste in music – I found Nashville because of it so duh. If you are into music and entertainment at the same time all you need is a good cable subscription (check: Spectrum Select Channel Lineup) and you’re good to go.
Conclusion:
Remember, guys, as mentioned before – there might be many songs I have yet to explore but you can help me out as well by commenting or connecting with me to let me know of any that come to your minds!
