Police have launched a probe after a person jumped into the 9/11 North Tower Memorial. 

The person survived the leap, diving into the 45ft reflecting pool, which was briefly cordoned off, according to the New York Times.

Officials said the jumper was a relative of a 9/11 victim who was ‘briefly granted access to the restricted area at the plaza-level.’

They had been looking at their loved one’s name on the memorial, with the area reopening a short time later. The person ‘complained of back pain’ to medics. 

A New York City Fire Department spokesman confirmed to DailyMail.com the person survived the leap into the 18-inch deep water.

The person survived the leap, diving into the 18ft reflecting pool, which was briefly cordoned off, according to the New York Times 

Officials received a call at 1.30pm on Monday to reports of a ‘jumper in the fountain’, with one person transported to Bellevue Hospital.
