Lismore teen charged with attempted murder sexual assault

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder and sexual assault after a woman woke up to find him in her house with a knife. 

A 43-year-old woman was home alone at her house in Lismore, northeastern New South Wales, when she woke to find an unknown man inside. 

The man, armed with a knife, allegedly threatened the woman, and following a struggle, sexually assaulted her. 

The 43-year-old woman was taken to Lismore Base Hospital where she was treated for injuries, including a stab wound to her back 

He allegedly demanded money and hit the woman on the head with an unknown object, NSW Police said. 

The woman’s screams alerted her neighbours and the teenage boy fled from the home. 

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a stab wound to her back, facial injuries and lacerations to her hands and arms. 

She was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested by police from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad at about 7.30pm on Wednesday. 

The teenager was charged with a string of offences including wounding a person with intent to murder and aggravated sexual assault – inflicting actual bodily harm. 

He was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on Thursday.
