Manchester United stars were back in training just eight hours after arriving home following a nightmare journey back from Bristol.

There was no respite for Jose Mourinho’s men after their last-gasp defeat to Bristol City on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

After arriving back in the north-west at 5am on Thursday morning, the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Darmian, who all featured in the loss, were pictured entering the club’s Carrington training base as they reported for training at 1pm ahead of their fixture with Leicester on Saturday.

The United stars appeared in a dejected and glum mood as they got back to the grind in Manchester following their shock defeat to the Championship outfit.

The Premier League stars will be desperate to put the last 24 hours behind them following their horror journey home from Bristol.

The Old Trafford outfit were due to fly to Manchester on a private jet following the quarter-final defeat, but instead arrived back in the early hours of Thursday morning after being driven home on the team coach.

The disruption followed a chaotic journey to Bristol on Wednesday morning, with United’s plane being diverted to Cardiff due to heavy fog.

United chose to fly to the south west on the day of the game with the Championship outfit, rather than head down the day before and stay overnight at a hotel.

After their flight was cancelled following the 2-1 loss at Ashton Gate, Lukaku and Co were forced to make a 174 mile trip by road back to their Carrington base. The journey is likely to have taken almost three-and-a-half hours, whereas the flight time is just 50 minutes.

As a result of their diverted flight on the way to Bristol, the coach that had planned to pick them up had to re-route to Wales and bring Paul Pogba and Co back across the border – adding an hour to their journey.
