A man has drowned while swimming at a beach in Rye, an hour south of Melbourne, on Wednesday afternoon.
The man was spotted face down at the beach on Point Nepean Road about 2pm and was pulled unconscious from the water by onlookers.
Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.
The man is yet to be formally identified. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
