Lesbian couple say Jetstar staff ‘giggled’ at homophobic

A lesbian couple who claim they were repeatedly abused with homophobic slurs by a fellow Jetstar passenger claim flight crew did nothing but watch and ‘giggle’.

Cat Franke and Julz Evans have told of their flight from hell with the budget airline on New Year’s Eve, which they say was so scary it ‘left them fearing for their lives’.

The couple were flying from Melbourne to Perth to visit family when the clock struck midnight on December 31, when Ms Franke, 23, gave her partner, 25, a loving kiss.

At the same time as the Sydney Harbour Bridge was lit up with rainbow fireworks to celebrate Australia’s ‘yes vote’ to same-sex marriage, the pair began copping abuse.

To make matters worse the couple claims that as they sat there being called ‘f*****s’ and having their chairs punched, Jetstar flight attendants laughed at his behaviour.

Taking to Facebook to complain about their experience, the couple say immediately after they shared their kiss a man seated directly behind them began hurling abuse.

In her post Ms Franke said the man called them names, told them he wanted to ‘see lesbians kiss’ and punched their chairs during what they claim was hours of abuse.

‘My partner and I felt so uncomfortable… we immediately stopped our conversation and sat as still as possible, hoping he would leave us alone,’ Ms Franke said.

‘Unfortunately because we had not met his request he began his homophobic slurs, singing loudly and also mumbling about how we were f*****s, d***s and p****ers.

‘He then began to kick and punch my partners chair while saying how we weren’t equals and rambled about his beliefs about marriage.’

Ms Franke said the experience made the couple feel trapped and afraid for their safety.

‘I feared for mine and my partner’s lives on that plane, we were physically trapped with someone who wanted to hurt us and make sure we had a terrible time,’ she said.

‘When I spoke up to ask him to stop, he only got more aggressive and louder with his homophobic hate speech and began boxing the back of my partners chair.

‘Your staff were aware of his behaviour and did absolutely nothing to even try to help… they failed to do anything about him other than giggle at his drunkenness.’

Daily Mail Australia contacted Jetstar for comment.
