Dave Hughes on what he never wants his children to say

He’s the quirky radio star known for using his family life as comedic fodder.

So it’s not wonder Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, 47, has revealed that he fears his children Rafferty, eight, Sadie, six, and Tess, four, may eventually ban him from joking about them in public.

Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly, the father-of-three confessed: ‘I’d be bloody annoyed if one day they go, ‘Dad, don’t mention me any more,’- that’d break my heart.’

‘But generally they’ve got a good sense of humour. I really want to instill that in my children- that you’ve got to be able to laugh at yourself.’

He went on: ‘No one’s perfect- let’s laugh at our failings.’

Last year, Dave revealed his mission to act as a role model to people who believe they need to be ‘perfect’ in order to work in show-business.

Appearing on Channel Nine’s Today Extra, Dave told hosts David Campbell and Sonia Kruge: ‘I am an example that you don’t have to be perfect to be successful. I’m missing ten teeth and I’m on TV regularly.’

The renowned funnyman went on to say he had also recently contributed to society in a rather personal way.

‘I had to wear an adult nappy because I had a bad case of gastro,’ he said.

‘That could be really embarrassing, but I talked about it and people gave me credit for it.’

Back in November last year, David and his radio co-host Kate Langbroek made headlines when The Herald sun reported that KIIS FM had cut their show from the network a week early.

‘[Dave and Kate] were called after Friday’s show and told they had done their final shift after three years at KIIS,’ the publication claimed.

And Hughesy & Kate weren’t the only ones reported to have been cut without notice, with The Herald Sun claiming Meshel Laurie and Matt Tilley also got the brutal call.

Dave and Kate have since returned to the airwaves on rival FM station 2Day FM.
