Poundland Christmas crackers contained the same gift

Poundland customers have complained after the store’s range of £5 luxury crackers left guests with exactly the same items.

Customer Linda Dagless bought a pack of 12 crackers from a Poundland branch in Norwich and was excited to open them with her family on the big day.

But as diners pulled the so-called luxury crackers ahead of dinner, they realised they were left with twelve identical nail clippers.

But she and daughters, Kya Dagless, 18, and Courtney Dagless, 21, were left feeling let down when they realised each cracker contained exactly the same gift inside - a pair of nail clippers

Linda Dagless said she and daughters, Kya Dagless, 18, and Courtney Dagless, 21, were left feeling let down and it spoilt their festive mood.

Ms Dagless, 42, said: ‘I bought the crackers for Christmas Day and they were such a disappointment.

‘I thought I’d pay a bit more for them because it said they were luxury but when we pulled them all, we found 12 pairs of nail clippers. It was ridiculous.

‘After about the fourth cracker it became a bit of a joke. Every time Kya and her sister pulled one they were like ‘is it going to be another pair?’

‘Poundland gave us a £5 gift voucher to apologise but that doesn’t make up for the disappointment on the day.

‘We’ll just have to use one pair each month now. Every time we have a visitor we offer them a pair but so far we’ve had no takers.’

On the back of the box, the gifts claimed to include nail clippers, nail files, keyrings, a bottle opener, playing cards among others.

But dozens complained to the budget company after experiencing the same problem.

The store has apologised after upset shoppers slammed the quality of the item as poor as said they left them feeling unfestive.

Some were even reported to have come without jokes and coloured hats, despite being branded as the store’s luxury crackers costing £5.

Another customer, Doris Day, claims she was ‘not impressed’ after pulling the crackers and finding that 11 out of 12 of the gifts were bottle openers, while Jessica Scudder opened hers to find a dozen plain white notepads.

Lou Jarrett-Kane, 29, had been to dinner at her wife, Vicki Jarrett-Kane’s family home and claims her mother-in-law was left embarrassed by the purchase.

Her sister-in-law Emily’s favourite part of Christmas Day is pulling the crackers and she claims she was ‘a bit grumpy’ after discovering the disappointing presents.

Ms Jarrett-Kane, from Oxford, Oxfordshire, said: ‘We went to my mother-in-law’s house and ate dinner with my wife’s family.

‘My mother-in-law bought them from Poundland and at first, I thought they had only cost £1 so wasn’t very surprised. When she said they cost £5 and were the luxury version, I thought ‘that’s a bit s**t’.

‘Luckily she laughed about it. She won’t be buying them again this year – she’s a bit annoyed.

‘We always look at the back of the box and say which gift we’d each wish for. I always get the playing cards and my wife gets the screwdriver set.

‘Instead we got six keyrings and six springy-things. We’ve got the keyrings in a bowl in the kitchen because you never know when you might need six keyrings.’

A spokesperson for Poundland said: ‘We’re sorry to hear our crackers didn’t pop, we’re looking into this to make sure no more Christmases are ruined and to clear our name from Santa’s naughty list.’
