Nicky Campbell says jogger scolded his dog for barking

Radio presenter Nicky Campbell has told of his astonishment after he was confronted by a jogger because his dog barked at a squirrel.

The breakfast show host told listeners he was walking his three dogs when one of them, as it often does, spotted the bushy-tailed creature in a tree and started barking.

To his shock, a passing runner then demanded the pet stop the noise because it was ‘disturbing his run’.

Recalling the incident on his BBC Radio Five Live show this morning, Campbell said: ‘I was running with my two Westies and my Labrador the other day in the park.

‘And one of the Westies spotted a squirrel up a tree. She’s very clever, she spots them up a tree and she stands at the bottom barking.

‘This jogger went past and said “Will you stop your dog barking, it’s disturbing my run!”‘

‘I said “Will you take your fluorescent top off? It’s an eyesore”, which I thought was quite good under the circumstances.’

After a brief row, the man ran off, but was passing again when the dog saw another squirrel and again barked, Campbell recalled.

He added: ‘I went up to the tree and went “bark, bark bark, go on bark”.’

The radio host has three dogs; Maxwell, a yellow Labrador and Maisie and Misty, two West Highland Terriers.

He regularly posts pictures of them on Twitter, which are loved by fellow dog-lovers among his listeners and online followers.
