Sex predators using dangerous new ‘Tinder for teens’ app

Parents have been warned sexual predators are using a dangerous new app to prey on children as young as 10.

Yubo, which used to be called Yellow, has been called ‘Tinder for teens’ due to its similarities with adult dating app Tinder in which users swipe to find matches.

The app had over a million monthly users in Australia, and is one of the most popular apps downloaded by teens and pre-teens.

Yubo syncs with Snapchat, allows users to livestream themselves to anyone watching, and rate other users, The Daily Telegraph reported.

‘I’ve actually seen a number of boys, most of them have been around 16 or 17, that have met with predators thinking they were an attractive young girl,’ said child psychologist Jordan Foster.

Ms Foster said she is aware of teenage girls being pressured into sending nude photos, and lured into face-to-face meetings.

Peter Brown from Family Zone Cyber Safety said almost half of all teens were using dangerous social media.

His concerns were echoed by cyber safety expert Susan Mclean, who said parents need to make sure their children are protected online.

Parents should be involved  ‘in all parts of their children’s online world’, she said.

Daily Mail Australia briefly trialled the app, and had instant access to adult users livestreaming videos of themselves and sharing photos.

Yubo is rated for users 12 and older on the Australian iTunes store, and has a safety centre on its website for the app’s young users.

‘We do not tolerate any abuse of our site and we will delete any users under the age of 13,’ a Yubo spokesperson told the publication.
