TCU Delta Tau Delta fraternity pledges ‘brutally hazed’

New members of a fraternity at Texas Christian University were allegedly kept blindfolded and locked in a closet and forced to perform acts with sex toys.

They were also allegedly burned with matches and lighters while being forced to recite the Greek alphabet.

The pledges were allegedly forced to hold a lit match until they successfully recited the Greek alphabet, which caused some members to be burned.

They were also blindfolded and held in a closet for over an hour, and told to ‘perform sex motions with sex dolls and toys,’ according to a complaint obtained by KXAS.

A student reported the incident to campus officials on November 1, and a criminal investigation began immediately.

The student also complained of ‘rampant racism’ in the fraternity.

Detectives interviewed 32 pledges the day after the alleged hazing incidents. Some had visible injuries on their fingers and forearms from the apparent burnings.

The pledges declined to pursue criminal charges and the investigation was closed within a week.

‘Although the investigation did reveal criminal conduct, there were no cooperating witnesses,’ according to the police report.

Authorities obtained text messages sent between the pledges referencing the alleged hazing incidents.

‘Sorry boys for having half y’all burnt and all of you doing planks cause I didn’t study alphabet enough,’ one message read.

‘ … I can’t make it up to you but I just want you to know that it hurt a lot more knowing I was letting my brothers down and that I wish I could’ve been burning my own damn fingers off.’

The Delta Tau Delta chapter ordered the TCU chapter to be closed down last month after an investigation ‘confirmed multiple violations of the fraternity’s risk management policy, including hazing, during the fall 2017 semester.’

On Thursday, TCU issued a statement regarding the DTD chapter and the alleged hazing.

‘Texas Christian University was disappointed to learn of hazing allegations against one of its campus fraternities. When TCU’s Office of Campus Life was notified of the charges, the university immediately placed the group under a cease-and-desist order and notified the fraternity’s national chapter, which subsequently elected to close the chapter at the university,’ the statement read.

‘TCU Police investigated; an inquiry into whether reported behaviors violated the student code of conduct will follow the police investigation, the results of which are independent and separate from any legal charges. TCU expects its students to behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law.’
