Teen dies after falling from Newcastle waterskiing boat

A 17-year-old boy has lost his life after falling from a waterskiing boat just north of Newcastle on Friday afternoon. 

Emergency services rushed the Williams River and pulled the teen from the water about 500m from Fitzgerald Bay, but he was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 34-year-old man driving the boat and a man skiing behind the boat were both uninjured, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Police have taken the driver to hospital for drug and urine tests, while  the boat will be removed from the water and forensically examined.

Anyone with information relating to the tragic incident is urged to come forward as a report is prepared for the coroner.
