And Sarah Ferguson, 58, showed off her kind nature on Friday evening as she shook hands with a Big Issue seller in Mayfair.

The Duchess of York, who was leaving Loulou’s private members club, beamed as she stopped to talk to the man but didn’t appear to pick up paper.

Fergie cut an elegant figure in a tailored navy blazer and a black a-line dress which skimmed just below the knees.

The ex-wife of Prince Andrew sported black shiny loafers, choosing to forgo heels, and wore her trademark red tresses down in a curled style.

She completed the look with a black handbag and added a pop of colour to her ensemble with a red feather accessory.

The television personality has been involved with a number of charities over the years.

In 1990, the Duchess became patron of the Teenager Cancer Trust and three years later she founded Children in Crisis, a children’s charity focused on education and grant making to international programmes.

Princess Beatrice, who the Duchess shares with her former husband, Prince Andrew, 57, described Fergie as as one of the most ‘misunderstood women in the world’ in a rare interview last year.

The Princess of York describes her grandmother the Queen and her mother Sarah as the two most important women in her life, describing them as ‘formidable’. 

Speaking to Hello! magazine the royal revealed how her mother’s resilience inspired her while she was growing up.

She told the magazine that Fergie taught her that ‘anything is possible, no matter where you think the world is going to put you next’.

She added: ‘We’ve been through some incredibly stressful times together as a family and every single minute she created joy.

‘I am so lucky that I get to learn from her every single day. I’m inspired by her ability to give, even when she’s going through something hard.’ 

Prince Andrew and the Duchess divorced in 1996. The pair remain close with daughters Beatrice, 29, and Eugenie, 27, who regularly dine with them at Royal Lodge.
