Shocking video shows woman glassing ex-boyfriend’s face

This is the terrifying moment a man is glassed in the face by his then girlfriend before stumbling down a street in search of help.

Peter Cairns was lucky not to lose an eye when he was attacked by his ex-girlfriend Melissa Connolly, said doctors.

She admitted causing malicious wounding when she appeared at Preston Crown Court, last Friday and will be sentenced later.

Connolly, 43, attacked Mr Cairns after he made several attempts to leave her home in Barrow, Cumbria, on the night of October 20 of last year.

As he tried in vain to escape, she smashed a wine glass in his face with such force the sound of the glass breaking drowns out his shouts.

After managing to get out of the house, Mr Cairns cane be seen in the footage, clearly in shock as he calls out for help, before finding his way inside Shengs, a nearby takeaway.

Horrified staff offer help to Mr Cairns.

He refuses to go inside, to prevent blood from dripping onto the floor.

Police and paramedics were then called and Mr Cairns was treated for a serious wound on his head just millimetres above his eye. Doctors told him he was lucky not to have lost the eye.

Connolly pleaded guilty to causing malicious wounding to Peter Cairns.

She’d originally been charged with Section 18, malicious wounding with intent, which is the most serious form of assault a person can commit.

She pleaded not guilty to the Section 18 offence but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of a Section 20 grievous bodily harm or wounding without intent.

This was accepted by the prosecutor in court on Friday and Connolly will return to Preston Crown Court on February 2 for sentencing.

Bail conditions prevent Connolly from contacting the victim, Peter Cairns, or witness Charles Hunter.

She is also banned from entering Mill Lane on Walney or Shengs takeaway in Barrow.
