A North Carolina woman has been charged with filing a false report of a stolen car an triggering a police chase that killed five people.

Erica Leann Robinson reported her silver 2003 Acura in September, authorities told the Greensboro News and Record.

On September 30 a Guilford County sheriff’s deputy spotted the car, ran the plates and tried to stop it.

But as soon as he activated his blue lights the car ran, and police said the vehicle was traveling at an estimated 130 mph when it ran a stop light and crashed into a 2012 Kia.

Alyssa Mackenzie Bolick, 29, and Stephanie Louise Warshauer, 32, were both in the Kia and were killed on impact.

The people in the Acura, Deshon Lee Manuel, 42; Theresa Monique Kingcade, 34; and Bruce Wayne Hunt, 40 were also killed in the crash.

Bolick’s dog was also in the Kia, and was the lone survivor in the crash.

Assistant District Attorney Howard Neumann said Robinson is not being charged in the deaths because her actions were ‘far too distant’ from the actual crash.

‘I know everybody wants o pin something on somebody here, but we’ve got to stay within the confines of the law,’ Neumann said.

‘The charge is that she reported it stolen when it was not stolen.’

The crime is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum 60 day prison sentence.

Robinson’s mother is the car’s registered owner, and it’s not clear how the people who crashed the car ended up with it.

‘We still don’t know the transaction that happened between the car and the people that had it ‘ Detective R Goad told the paper. Goad was the lead reporter on the crash.

Two of three people killed who were driving in the Acura, Manuel and Kingcade, had active warrants at the time of their death and would have been arrested had they been stopped.
