Redskins heiress insists she is the victim after arrest

The millionaire socialite daughter of a former Washington Redskins owner insists she is the victim after she became embroiled in an alleged anti-Semitic assault and bashed someone over the head with her $300 glass purse.

Jacqueline Cooke, 29, is accused of hurling anti-Semitic slurs at a 77-year-old grandmother before attacking the woman’s son outside a New York City restaurant on New Year’s Eve.

Cooke was arrested and charged with assault following the shocking confrontation in the swanky Upper East Side restaurant Caravaggio.

She got into the physical confrontation with personal injury attorney Matthew Haberkorn, 52, outside the restaurant moments after Cooke allegedly yelled an anti-Semitic slur at the man’s mother outside the cloakroom.

Cooke was waiting in line behind Haberkorn’s mother when she allegedly said: ‘Hurry up Jew, I got places to be.’

Her boyfriend allegedly chimed in with his own nasty remarks, telling Haberkorn’s daughters: ‘Happy bat mitzvah, girls.’

Haberkorn claims that when he confronted Cooke outside the restaurant, she beat on the head with her Lulu Guinness Chloe Mirrored Perspex Box clutch.

Cooke, who made a brief court appearance last week, claims she was misheard, according to Page Six.

‘We had a really nice dinner and were rushing to go to a friend’s apartment before the clock struck midnight. We were right behind Mr Haberkorn’s family in the line, but they were taking a really long time looking for their tickets, so I -ticket in hand -told his mother, ‘Excuse me I have to get through’,’ Cooke told the publication.

‘She clearly didn’t hear what I said and immediately screamed at the top of her lungs, ‘She called me a Jew!’.’

Cooke, who says she didn’t know they were Jewish, claims she immediately tried to diffuse the situation but the rest of Haberkorn’s family started yelling at her.

She claims she fled the restaurant but Haberkorn, who had been in the bathroom at the time, confronted her outside.

‘He came out in a rage,’ Cooke said. ‘Mr Haberkorn tried to push my boyfriend around, and I didn’t know what to do, so I hit him with my purse. I was defending my boyfriend, I was frightened, I was scared, but I never intended to hurt Mr Haberkorn.’

Footage taken by one of Haberkorn’s four daughters showed the attorney bleeding from the head just moments after the alleged assault.

Cooke meanwhile could be seen lying on the ground and struggling to stand.

‘You called me a f***ing bitch, you called me a c**t,’ Cooke can be heard shouting in the video.

Haberkorn could then be seen looking at Cooke and shouting: ‘You called me a f***ing Jew.’

The video ended after Cooke appeared to try to tackle Haberkorn, but fell to the sidewalk yet again. The couple then ran away as Cooke could be heard claiming ‘self-defense’ and ‘you harassed me’ over her shoulder as she fled.

Cooke is the daughter of the late Jack Kent Cooke, who owned the Redskins, along with the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings.

She was arrested on January 3 and spent the night in a holding cell before appearing in Manhattan Criminal Court for a pre-arraignment deposition.

Cooke appeared entirely disinterested in the proceedings and showed no emotion in the courtroom despite the fact that she is facing up to seven years in prison.

She was released on her own recognizance and is due back in court next month, with an order of protection put in place requiring her to stay away from her alleged victim.

Cooke previously worked for shoe designer Isa Tapia as the director of PR and marketing.

Her mother Suzanne was the third of Jack Kent Cooke’s four wives, marrying the millionaire businessman when she was 31 and he was 74 in 1987.

The two divorced after just 72 days, and Suzanne later gave birth to Jacqueline.
