This video captured the terrifying moment a violent storm rocked a cruise ship –smashing crockery and forcing passengers to hold onto the tables.

Crew on board P&O Cruises’ Ventura ship out of Southampton clung to the fixtures as it was battered by 100-knot winds on December 10.

Throughout the clip, filmed in the ship’s main dining room, the sound of tableware breaking as it falls to the ground can be heard.

He later wrote online that he feared the 116,000-ton ship – which can accommodate 3,078 guests and 1,205 crew members – would capsize.

Elderly passengers were reportedly thrown to the floor when the chairs toppled over, he added.

‘Seated passengers’ chairs toppled over spilling elderly passengers onto the floor,’ he wrote.

‘The listing was such, and becoming slowly worse, that I began to fear the ship may actually go over.

‘Only after about 25-30 minutes did the Bridge finally speak up and advise we had been hit by a side on ‘100-knot wind squall’ and they had been turning the ship into the wind.’
