Armed police are at the scene of a ‘domestic incident’ which has left a woman seriously injured.

Officers were called to the incident in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, at around 9.45am today.

A 38-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The busy A52 Werrington Road is currently closed in the Bucknall area of the city.

One end of Ruxley Road, where the incident started, is also understood to be closed and police are asking people to avoid the area.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: ‘Firearms officers have been deployed to an address on Ruxley Road, Stoke-on-Trent, following a domestic related incident today.

‘A 38-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Werrington Road is currently closed whilst officers deal with the situation.’

One eye witness said people within the cordon are being asked to stay in their homes and buses travelling through the area are facing disruption.

Eyewitness Tamara Rushton, 22, said: ‘The incident is in the flat above the pet shop, I saw it getting raided about two weeks ago. I saw a girl being arrested and taken away.

‘I want to know what is happening because the police have told us to stay away but won’t tell us what is going on.’

Megan Groves, 22, added: ‘I was walking along and my daughter pointed out the police to me.

‘There is a lot of police around so it must be serious but I do not know what is going on.’

One mother added: ‘I really want to know what is going on because my children are at the Kingsland School and it is very close to this incident.’
