Police seize modified and home-made guns in raids

A series of police raids have led to the seizure of a huge haul of weaponry, including modified and home-made guns.

Targeting the illegal firearms trade, the raids by police in Western Australia resulted in the seizure of 14 guns and led to 80 charges being laid against 20 people.

Some of the guns were home-made, and many had been modified from replica firearms or those built to fire blanks.

Police also seized drugs including heroin, methamphetamine and cannabis, and stolen cars and property, The West Australian reported.

Replica guns, Tasers, swords, extendable batons and pepper spray were found, and police said some of the firearms had been modified to make them easy to conceal.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Hart said finding an arsenal of modified guns was concerning.

‘There is no legitimate, lawful or even reasonable purpose for possessing firearms like these,’ he said.

They are purely made, modified and possessed for criminal purposes.

A total of 13 properties were raided, including a home in Gnangara, 25 kilometres north of Perth where 28 cannabis plants were allegedly being grown.

Police charged a man, 45, over the alleged drug set-up, and the home – worth $1million – was ‘frozen’ as police allege it was used in the commission of a crime.
