During the shocking bodycam clip, PC Agyei can be heard screaming in agony as she is attacked by a 24-year-old man, who has not been named.

After the assault, the police officer can be seen putting strands of her torn out hair into a plastic bag.

The brave policewoman assures concerned colleagues she was alright, insisting, ‘I’m fine, I’m okay.’

She is then sat in a police car, where the audibly shaken officer says, ‘oh my God.’

Speaking about the assault, PC Agyei said: ‘We had arrested a 50-year-old man for breach of the peace following reports of a domestic.

‘Whilst two of my colleagues were placing him in the rear of the police van his son came out and said “what the hell did you say to my dad?”

‘He went to run towards them with his fists clenched and I didn’t think my colleagues saw this so I pushed him out of the way telling him to stay back from my colleagues.

‘Then he ended up attacking me.

‘We ended up on the floor together where he has grabbed me by the back of my head and smashed my head on the road a couple of times.

‘He has wrenched my hair out and held me by the throat and I was there for literally seconds but it felt like a long time until one of my colleagues was able to pull him off me.

‘When they were unable to pull him off at first, they sprayed him with PAVA spray and then I helped my colleague restrain him until other people arrived.

‘I think I was in complete shock. Because at the time he was pushing me and attacking me I was thinking “I can’t believe this is happening, what do I do now?”

‘I was thinking of all the PST [personal safety training] moves we had been taught and which one would be most effective but I literally had seconds to think.

‘I was really shocked, I couldn’t say much afterwards for a bit.’

Her attacker was given a suspended sentence of 12 weeks after pleading guilty to assault.

West Midlands Police released the video to highlight the violence police officers are frequently open to.

There were 669 assaults on West Midlands officers and staff recorded between April and December 2017. Due to those attacks, 356 days were lost as police men and women recovered from their injuries, with a cost equivalent to around £65,000 in sick pay.

Chief Constable Dave Thompson, said: ‘I am stepping up to highlight the impact of assaults on our communities. Officers, PCSOs and staff are often the first and last line of defence.

‘Our officers will always do the right thing and routinely put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public, but we need to bring to justice criminals who think that it is okay to abuse and hit out.

‘Time off recovering from a senseless attack is time taken away from the very communities that need them policing their streets and protecting them.’
