Essex woman gang raped in St Osyth Cemetery

  • She was driven to St Osyth Cemetery in Essex where two other men were waiting
  • The three men then raped her between 3pm and 4pm on Sunday afternoon

A woman in her 30s was gang-raped at a graveyard after being driven there by one of the men who attacked her.

The driver hauled her into the car in Jackson Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

He and his two passengers then took her to St Osyth Cemetery in Clay Lane, Essex, where two other men were waiting.

She was then raped by the three men at around 3pm and 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Officers are carrying out forensic examination work within the grounds of the cemetery and detectives are appealing for witnesses.

Specially trained officers are continuing to provide support the victim.

Detective Inspector Greg Wood from Essex Police’s public protection investigation unit said: ‘We are continuing to make extensive enquiries into this serious offence, including house to house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage.

‘We are currently treating this as an isolated incident but we understand the community will be concerned and we have increased our patrols in Jackson Road and the Clay Lane areas as a result.’

Anyone with information, or with dashcam footage or CCTV, is asked to contact the Adult Sexual Assault Investigation Team on 101.
